How it works

  1. Find the pages

Search, pick a date range or add a filter like site:github.com. Or skip it to export everything.

  2. Click Export

The export button sits in the toolbar. Its menu shows how many pages go into the file.

  3. Pick a format

Download CSV, HTML or JSON. The file name carries today’s date.

In detail

What's inside each export

All three formats hold the same pages with the same details: title, address, site, last visit and visit count. Pick the one that suits where the file is going.

Export Chrome history to CSV for Excel and Sheets

The CSV file has a header row and one line per page. It is saved as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark, so accents and other scripts open correctly in Excel, and each line ends the way Windows expects.

  • Dates are ISO 8601 in UTC, so they sort correctly in any spreadsheet.
  • Titles with commas or quotes are wrapped in quotes, so columns never shift.
  • A cell that starts with =, +, - or @ gets a leading apostrophe, so a page title can’t run as a formula.

An HTML page you can search offline

The HTML file is a single page that opens in any browser, with no extension needed. It has its own search box, sortable columns and pages of 10, 25, 50 or 100 entries.

  • Sort by Title, Visits or Last visited. Newest is first when it opens.
  • Every address is a link you can click.
  • The heading carries the date you exported it.

JSON for your own scripts, and Cleanup exports

The JSON file is a neatly indented array with title, url, site, visitedAt and visits for every page, ready for jq, Python or a database import.

  • Every Cleanup group has its own export button, so you can keep a copy before deleting.
  • The export menu shows how many pages go into the file.
  • Files are named history-monk-history- plus today’s date.

What else it does

  • CSV for spreadsheets

Opens in Excel, Numbers and Google Sheets with five columns: Title, URL, Site, Last visited and Visits.

  • JSON for your scripts

A clean array with title, url, site, visitedAt and visits for every page.

  • HTML to read offline

One page you can open in any browser, with its own search box, sorting and paging.

FAQ

Questions about exporting history

How do I export my Chrome history to CSV?

Open History Monk, search or pick a date range, click the export button and choose Download CSV. The file goes to your Downloads folder, named with today's date.

Can I export only part of my history?

Yes. Export saves exactly what's on screen, so a search, a site: filter, a date range or a Cleanup group all work.

Is my history uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is created inside your browser and saved straight to your computer.

The wise search once. History Monk remembers the rest.
